Vinery Stables and Fox Hill Farm’s Friesan Fire, who finished 18th of 19 as the 7-2 favorite for this year’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), is one of six horses entered in the Dec. 3 feature at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

Friesan Fire hasn’t raced since the May 16 Preakness Stakes (gr. I), in which he finished 10th. Previously, the 3-year-old A.P. Indy colt won the Lecomte Stakes (gr. III), Risen Star Stakes (gr. III), and Louisiana Derby (gr. II) at Fair Grounds.

Friesan Fire had been trained by Larry Jones, who stepped away from training this year. Steve Asmussen now trains Friesan Fire.

Friesan Fire has won four of nine starts for earnings of $603,265. He will return in a $50,000 allowance event for 3-year-olds and up that haven’t won $36,000 twice at a mile or over since June 3, 2009. There is an optional claiming price of $100,000 for the race, which will be run at one mile and 40 yards.

Here’s the field from the rail out: Friesan Fire with Shaun Bridgmohan riding; Good and Lucky (Shane Sellers); Glamour Guy, (Robby Albarado); Fancy Runner (Jesse Campbell); Willist (Jansen Melancon); and Coragil Cat (Corey Lanerie).
