Hollywood - Race 1
#4 Aggie Engineer (3/1 ml)
Very talented colt for Gallagher came off a similarly long layoff about this same time last year, and looked like a bona fide stakes horse when running a sharp third behind the sensational sprinter Rail Trip (who went on to stretch out successfully as well). Predictably came back to win his next start in fast time, then got cooked in a couple of speed duels before winning the race that's most relevant here, a stretchout to two turns where there was very little speed to challenge him. That scenario put him an uncontested lead where he was allowed to set soft fractions, and he was able to take full advantage as he coasted wire-to-wire. Looks to be a nearly identical situation here, and he's already proven he can fire a big shot off an extended layoff. Should run well.
HRT record:
24 for 229 (28%)
$554.00 mutuels ($8.66 avg)
