Santa Anita - Race 3
#5 Madeline Ruby (6/1 ml)
Sharp filly for Mark Glatt switched to the main track and scored an impressive win last time out, rating snugly at the back of the pack before making a sharp move into the turn while circling the field, causing her to get hung out about 7-wide while obviously losing much ground in the process. She stuck to it though, and was running away at the finish to go clear by open lengths under Rodario, who is now 2-for-5 aboard this filly with 2 of the 3 losses coming by less than a length. Note that she comes into this race with an identical work pattern as last time (a slow 103 drill 6 days before the race), and though her last race looks a little slow on paper, the older stakes-type Aggie Engineer recorded a win in 144.1 at the same distance earlier on the card (after setting even slower early fractions than the ones in Madeline Ruby's race), so the track was definitely running on the slow side that day. Should get a contested pace to run at here, and i think a similar effort makes her a strong contender at a very nice price.
HRT record:
65 for 232 (28%)
$558.40 mutuels ($8.59 avg)
