Gulfstream Park stewards declared the third race on opening day Jan. 3 a “no contest” due to a mechanical problem with the starting gate.

The starting gate tractor would not start and kept workers from moving it from the area near the finish line.

The race, a $25,000 claiming event for 3-year-old fillies at one mile on the turf, had 11 entered. A track press release on the incident did not say how much was wagered.

Refunded wagers include win, place, show, exacta, trifecta, and superfecta. The pick three that began with the third was also refunded.

Consolation payoffs were offered on the daily double which began in race two. Consolation payoffs were also offered on the pick three for races one and two.

Officials said all horses and riders returned without issue following the race.
