Some updated info on Curlinello

First off, Curlinello wasn't exactly flattered when the horse he beat by a neck (Joe Vann) returned run third @ Belmont last weekend as a heavy favorite.

Also of note however, Curlinello came out of his debut win to work heads-up with the 3yo Overcommunication, who came out of that drill (and off an 8-month layoff) to run a good second in a fast allowance race @ Belmont on Sep 15.

One last thing to consider, you'll notice in my analysis from the Saratoga race that Pletcher seemed to be looking specifically for a 7-furlong race for Curlinello's debut. That also played out on on the racetrack, as Curlinello needed every last yard of that 7 furlongs to get up for the win. It seems readily apparent that Pletcher wants some distance for this colt, which probably explains why he's been entered in this two-turn race. So i think it's fair to expect improvement from Curlinello as distances increase. That's a definite positive for Saturday.

IMO i think Curlinello is a star in the waiting even if he loses today at monmouth.Yes his last race they came home slow, but it doesnt diminish his win.He looked absolutely dead at the top of the stretch and all of a sudden he kicked it into second gear.As handicappers we have to decide whether he won or the the field came back to him,and from watching the race several times Curlinello was game and determine.
6.5 furlongs maybe a little short for him but we may get 3-1 because the public will read too much into the time of the race.IMO Curlinello will find a way to get it done today just seems that type of horse, and if he doesnt still keep a close eye.

Curlinello ran second by a neck. Thought he looked pretty damn good, probably would've won without the traffic.

It seemed like he really got going late. Looks like a pure distance type, as advertised.
