Santa Anita - Race 4
#2 Reneesgotzip (6/5 ml)
Morning line is a bit of a misnomer here, as the heavy favorite is #1 Eden's Moon (3/5 ml). This represents a rematch with Eden's Moon (who won the last one by 3 lengths), and there are some definite reasons to like this filly today despite the loss. She blew the first turn (while Eden's Moon hugged the rail), losing a ton of ground to that one before having to use too much early energy to correct that mistake and rush back up into a stalking position. She then hung extremely tough, sticking right with Eden's Moon through solid fraction until about midstretch when that one was able to get away a bit. Note also, however, that in addition to the blown-turn by Reneesgotzip, Eden's Moon held another big advantage that day, that being a previous start around two turns (a similar frontrunning win), while Reneesgotzip was making her two-turn debut (stretching out from 6.5 furlongs). Think that Reneesgotzip should be in much better position to win this time, as she should be lapped right on Eden's Moon from the opening bell (assuming no blown turn this time), while likely keeping that one pinned down on the inner half of a speed duel. She should also have more stamina this time, with the initial two-turn race now under her belt. Very tall order for Eden's Moon to hold this filly off today, considering the changed circumstances, while the odds on the toteboard will suggest it's an easy task. Far from it. Big shot at turning the tables here, while offering the better price.
HRT record:
86 for 320 (27%)
$734.00 mutuels ($8.53 avg)

Santa Anita: Oaks favorite Eden's Moon looks much the best | Daily Racing Form
2-1 was such a gift after all the trouble in the last and to lose on the last stride like that...ugh.
