I thought Hanson was a sure thing for the roses but after the bluegrass I have doubts!!:yelling:

No horse is EVER a lock for the roses. Brutally difficult race to win. I estimate that even the very strongest favorite (in any year) has better than around a 4/1 chance of winning (on raceday). Sometimes a horse like Barbaro or Big Brown will make it look easy, but there's just too much going on in that race for it to ever be easy, no matter who the horse is. We could spend half an hour going over all the different obstacles.

I wouldn't have had doubts after the Bluegrass given the crap he had to put up with from his connections pre-race . . . the doubt would have come watching Bodemeister 30m later . . . :)

    VERY true DC . . . I still can't shake 2001 and Point Given . . .

I think the unluckiest loser from recent Derbys was Afleet Alex. Pretty obvious after the Triple Crown was over who the best horse out of that group was. Would've won the Derby if not for traffic problems (finished a very close third).

Yuck! Loaded up on Afleet Alex at like 20-1 for the derby after his terrible performance in I think it was the rebel (Not sure didn't feel like looking it up) he should of been our triple crown winner!

I got down $300 @ 18/1 after he won the Arkansas Derby. One of those deals where a casino wasn't paying attention and failed to move the line. Tough beat in the Derby, he deserved to win.

The 2005 Derby was one of the wildest races ever. Tom Durkin's call was epic. I don't know how he captured all those moves. The pace was suicidal, but I don't think Alex was robbed or anything. He had every opportunity in the final furlong but couldn't match strides with the two longshots. He got outrun. That's the way it goes.

I was hoping to get lucky with this one on a sportsbook. I had a big future wager sitting there on Bodemeister, as soon as he started to draw off in the stretch I pressed submit and the line was already removed. I thought I might be able to get it in before the finish :cursing:

i agree with you he got out run, but he just got better and better after that, his condition was superb.

going back to 1998 whoaaaa Real Quiet had the Triple Crown and Victory Gallop spoiled the party
this call was also epic. Tom Durking brings the thrill out in Horse racing :sweatdrop:

wow it gives me chills to watch and listen, just awesome
