Feedback on Contest Participation

We seem to be getting fewer and fewer contest participants each week. I wanted to get some feedback from users on what might get more people to participate? Perhaps instead of a contest every week, we should have two per month and increase the prize pool to $200?

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Edward

Although I play every week, I was a bit surprised at the payout. $100 is an amazing payout for a free contest, but I think alot of people on here don't play because of the difficulty to win. From what I've noticed it pretty much goes to whoever hits the longest shot of the week (i.e. the one that ended where Pacman racked about $90 in one pick). This is just a thought, but maybe cut first place down a bit and do payouts for the top 3 finishers? Something like:
    1st takes $50
    2nd takes $30
    3rd takes $20

More people winning = more people happy = more people playing.
It's just a thought, but maybe its worth a try?

Have it run over a two day period instead of stung out over so many days.

I don't have time to get on and pick races through so many days.

I also kind of like your idea but I do see one problem with the 2nd idea. If by $50 to the one w/ the most winnings your referring to actual winners out of 10 (i.e. 8 of out 10 take first) the only issue I see would be ties coming nearly every week. If that is how it'd run people are more than likely gonna lay the heaviest chalks throughout the week and I would see it being common with alot of ties around 7-8 winners a week.

YES THATS TRUE:yes: contest players will be look for the BEST BET; at differ. tracks /maybe if everyone would only be allow to play same tracks? /Every race?as posted by the mod..one for SAT and Sunday--total wins only win contest/tie breaking would be most money earn base on $2.00 WIN bet only..

I know this will probably be torn apart, But it would be nice to see daily updates at teh end of the day. This way you know were you stand. I run e season long contests at another forum and now how hard grading can be. I would suggest 1 post a day from a poster and that is it. Much easier to grade then. If I can be of some help just let me know...FBN

I'd like to see this idea paired with mine. And like flybynight I'd also volunteer to calculate totals for a day. Also, forgot who said it but people should be limited to one post per day instead of 1 race then the next etc

    Hey Ed:

    Hope you are well.

The Hundred Bucks means nothing to the true players. We need to know who is hot "right now".

Other sites have contests that allow us to know this info. Check them out.

If I win your $100.00, it just might pay for my Wifes dinner! No Offense!

Don't blame those who go after longer-shots and cash for higher amounts. One should remember, the higher the payoffs, the "less" chance of it hitting.

I see no reason to make two contests (number of wins & highest return). Face it, people wager the ponies to make money not have 'x' number of winners (and still be down for the day). Contests for cash prizes, should be return driven.

There is also no reason to up the prize money for a free contest. A $100 a week contest is more than fair/reasonable. Upping the anti will only bring out the prize "wh*res". I see no reason to break down the winnings for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

As previously mentioned, I think it is extremely important that the standings for the week be updated every day. I know the admins don't want everyone updating their totals in the contest thread, so how about making a thread for everyone to put their tallies/totals in and every person update the standings adding their winnings to it with the mods having the final/official total.

Completely disagree with having to make all the posts for the day in one post. Track conditions can and do change throughout the course of the day, does it seem fair to be stuck with a horse who closes when early speed has been holding up all day?

Something to think about for the future, consider having a small prize ($10 - $20) for the person who had the most number of wins and the highest payoff for an entire month.

Nice to see the "suits" asking for input instead of say "do it this way". Thanks for the weekly contest - win, lose or draw to me, they are a lot of fun.

I wouldn't change a thing. You guys are doing a great job with the contest and I'm thoroughly enjoying it (even if I can't pick a winner to save my life).

One suggestion maybe to help out those who pick more winners and set up the contest like other handicapping contests, is to deduct for loss wagers, Example, If some has only 4 winners and his/her total is $60 then his total for the week should be $24.... if he/she got 5 winners for $60 then there total for the week will be $30..... It will be a little more difficult to calculate the Return On Investment but this way it does hurt those only have a couple of longer shot winners!

    Fellow handicappers,

I think the contest is fine the way it is. I don't know how many actually play, but the last couple of weeks, there were approx. 28 singed up. And also, being new to this, I really don't know how many signed in. whatever you decide is ok by me.
One thing I would like to see different, is a variaty of tracks, to go with Dmar, sarat, Ellis arling, and a few others.
I support what your doing for the contest and keep up the good work, Mr. Administrator.
