“He was struggling with Santa Anita and never worked well there,” Baffert said. “The track at Santa Anita was a little bit funny for some horses. He had trouble with it. I think it was a little bit too hard for him. Since he’s been here, it’s like he’s a different horse. He’s really moved way up. I’m glad I brought him to give him that opportunity. From what I saw today, I’m not thinking that he can’t lose, but at least he’s going to be competitive.

I'm hearing El Padrino absolute horrible was blowing hard coming off the track this moring after his gallop. I wouldn't be suprised if then scratch him before Saturday.

I heard from one clocker he looks awesome and gallop over the track in a big way today. His coat and flesh look awesome!!!! This one won't be the price he is listed on the ml beacuse of Calving Borel will be in the saddle and Calvin has a huge following at CH on Derby Day.

Union Rags continues to gallop like a beast and is looking like a colt that is going to run a huge race this Saturday. For all the Union Rags fans and followers you all should be smiling as you will get double the odds this Saturday if he had won the Fl. Derby he would of been listed at 5/2 on the ml today.

Gemologist looked great over the track this morning, the travel and bad weather at PM hasn't affected him in any way. On the muscle and is handling the surface as he did in the past. Elliot Walden says this colt is much further along than Super Saver was and just an all around better race horse.

Bodemeister at 4/1 with Union Rags at 9/2 second choice just heard this from CH contact.

I have had a few minutes today to contact some sources and I was told Alpha work at Belmont park was a thing of beauty and his gallops after the work have been spot on. He also has made a great presence at CH since his arrival on yesterday. He gallop over the CH surface real well and the travel has taking nothing from him coming to this race. This hore is bred for the 10f and is a must use on exotics and maybe a win contender.

I have been told that Summer Applause is doing better at CH than she did at the FG since her arrival at CH. Brett Calhoun is beaming over this filly and has stated she likes this surface better than the FG surface and her training has showed it. This race really sets up for her with the abundance of speed in it. She is a very live longshot on Friday. Her past two works at CH have been some of the best works over the past two weeks. Just look at this filly in the form and she shouldn't be listed at 15-1 with Go Go in the saddle.

Grace Hall is hitting on all cylinders and her post draw is perfect for her running style. She galloped over the track today and is looking like a true favorite for the running of the lillies. This filly is the real deal!!!! They have been offered big MONEY for her and never once thought of selling her as they know what they have in this girl.

Kent D just stated that Dullahan loves the surface at CH. Was asked how he felt about the BC Juvy and stated he got left at the gate and was 10 back and wound up losing by 4 and with a better trip could of been right there at the wire. Was also asked about the pull up after the Blue Grass and he STATED had to pull up quick as Dullahan wanted to run off and as he would sit back down during the pull up he keep wanting to go and took a bad step and Kent says this is enough so I pulled him up. Dale Romans is beaming over this colt as well and when these connetions tout PAY ATTENTION.

I have had a very long day as we laid my mother to rest. I'm just settling in and trying to go over all notes and emails that were sent my way today regarding this weekend.

Have read from several contacts that Hansen looked off today and seemed to be tying up and was super rank. Pay attention tomorrow to see if he comes out and just walks or they do a little more to get the edge off.

The word on Alpha is tremendous, they say he has settled in and looks the part of a big win contender on Saturday. His gallops are awesome and his demanor is outstanding at this time. I saw one negative things yesterday, when they drew there PP's Kirian cringed as he will be one of the first to load and has a long wait in the gate. I just know it's not easy to work a 59 and change over Big Sandy. That is one strong work and shows this colt is on tilt.

TCI is beaming over this track and look for him to take a ton of money on Saturday. Pat B is all smiles and has the colt ready to run his best career race this weekend. Calvin is locked and loaded with this colt and TCI has been galloping the best of all derby contenders the past 3 days. I havne't heard one negative thing about this colt all week.

Another big worked reported from this filly, she is killing the CH surface. I have seen this one run many times in person at the FG and she is as honest a filly you would like to have. Don't leave her off you tickets on Oaks day.

5/8's :57.90 out 1:12.30 for Oaks was drifting just a touch coming to the wire from Mike Welsch.

The FG fillies ran 1 and 4 as the speed bias hurt the other in this race. Cowboy Larry Jones is a straight up horseman. I know he cries sometimes but he is a hell of a trainer and cares for his horses like Mott and others. He don't run just to run a horse in a stake or graded race like Lukas does not. He pulled Mark V and told Mr. Jones Mark V is off and lets no run him to just run and look what happen he wins the Oaks for Mr. Jones.

Been a real long week for me and I'm dead at this point. Capped the card for fast and didn't know they had a monsoon coming through last night. Let's cash some tickets today.

    Gl, FB

    Race 1

#1 - Point Taken W/P – Inside speed should take them a long way.

    Race 2

#9 – Kingwood W/P/S – Live long shot and don’t let the price scare you away. Sitting on huge effort.

9 over 1-2-4-5-7-10 in exotics also reverse in 2nd hole.

    Race 3

#9 – Tetradrachm – W/P/S – I know Paul McGee and he loves to win on this day as he did for us last year with Wordl. Let’s cash another long shot.

9 over 2-3-5-7-10 in exotics and also reverse in 2nd hole.

    Race 4

#3 – Cook Inlet – W/P/S – Another long shot and O’Neill ship this one ready to pounce today a big odds.

3 over 1-2-4-5-8-10-12 in exotics also reverse in 2nd hole.

    Race 5

#6 – Thermal Cat – W/P – Bucking my angles as I usually never play maiden off big wins. But for Catman to wheel back so fast he knows this one is good.

6 over 1-3-5-9-10-11-12 in exotics also reverse in 2nd hole.

    Race 6

#2 – Great Attack – W/P/S – This on should have dead aim on the speed backing up down the lane. The post and jock switch should put this on in the winner’s circle today.

2 over 3-4-7-8-10-11 reverse in all 3 spots in exotics.

    Race 7

#6 – Amazombie W/P – Trainer don’t ship unless loaded for bear play this on early and often!!!

6 over 1-3-4-8 in exotics revere in 2nd hole
    Race 8

#7 – Aruna – W/P – Not a big fan of this jock, but Motion has this on sitting on go all we need is a clean trip and ride and this will be easy.

7 over 3-4-5-9-10 in exotics reverse in 2nd hole also.

    Race 9

Those who were on board last year know I crushed this race with Sassy Image at huge odds. She is back in today and the price is gone and her jock has lost it. I don’t know at this time if he will ride today or who will be in the saddle but Dale and his brother have this girl back on tilt after her surgery and have been pointing to this on since she was shelved out of her last. I have also been told that Magical Feeling is going to run huge today and is sitting at 30-1 on the ml, don’t let this one slip past you today.

    #1 – Magical Feeling – W/P/S

    #3 – Sassy Image – W/P

1/3 over all in all 3 spots (BOXCARS)

    Race 10

    #10 – Brilliant Speed – W/P/S

10 over 2-3-5-6-7-8-9 in exotics reverse in all 3 spots.

The 138th Running of the Roses
    Kentucky Derby

Well this is my 17th year handicapping the ponies and this by far is the toughest Ky Derby I have seen in my time playing this great sport. Below are my comments on each horse in PP order.

#1 – Daddy Long Legs – Should of stayed across the pond and he draws the dreaded rail and has no shot.

#2 – Optimizer – Coach keep this one in the barn and we all say how disappointed you were with this draw. Go back to the weeds.

#3 – Take Charge Indy – Has the Borail magic and looks the part this week galloping over the CH strip, is on gone to the front or will he be hugging the conveyor belt (Rail) and make a Super Saver move?? Exotics

#4 – Union Rags – Love the connections and this is on beautiful horse and story. Go to you tube and search Union Rags and watch the movie on him and his connections. This family absolute loves this colt and I have been high on him all year. I’m hearing there might be a breathing problem and they have tried the tongue tie and he HATES IT. Big colt and can make a huge move when given the right ride. The frogman has to ride this one aggressive today to be a factor down the lane. Win Contender

#5 – Dullahan – Dale Romans is beaming over this colt and he has had a great week at CH galloping like a wild beast. Just look back at his work before the Blue Grass and you know this colt mean business and he showed down the lane that day winning geared down. I have become really high on this colt of late!!! Serious Win Contender

#6 – Bodemeister – Can you say FREAK!!!! His speed number are in a class by themselves and can run a lesser race than the Ark Derby and still win here today. Lightly raced and he beat absolute noting at Oaklawn last out. What is more impressive than his Beyer numbers are this speed rating / track variant numbers they are off the charts for such a light raced colt. Bobby B is the best at getting them ready and has this one primed for a huge effort. Win Contender

#7 – Rousing Sermon – I know Mr. Jerry and respect him as a horseman but should of stayed home with this colt. Might get in the super hi 5 is the race falls apart, he is just too slow. Maybe try the weeds with this one down the line.

#8 – Creative Cause – Mike Harrington isn’t saying anything but something has happened to the colt since arriving at CH. He is a complete toss for me if they don’t scratch him today. No Shot

#9 – Trinniberg – He will try and take them a long way and they might just blow this horses heart up trying to steal this race on the front end. Slick Willie better wrap this horse up down the lane and not run a very good sprinter. No Shot

#10 – Daddy Nose Best – He has been the buzz horse since shipping to CH early for this race. His works and gallops have been nothing but spectacular all week and Assman is smiling a lot of late. But who has be beat????? Exotics
#11 – Alpha – Love this colt, bred for the distance and had a derby trip last out in the Wood. He got hurt and took medicine and that work over Big Sandy is a eye opener on me end. He has looked like a beast since arriving to CH this week. Lost that fat he was carrying down south this past winter and he will make his presence felt down the lane today as Kirian is one of the better horseman these days. Serious Win Contender

#12 – Prospective – If this was a beauty contest this one would win or be 1st runner up, just isn’t fast enough. No Shot

#13 – Went The Day Well – Same connections as AK last year but not the same horse. Don’t like him in this race and now the track is a little off from the overnight rain. I’m passing!!!! No Shot

#14 – Hansen – The most gutsy horse in the race and will run his heart out today. Great post as he will flank the speed and Ramon D will try and ration his speed for long as he can. This is one beautiful colt and look for him to be there down the lane. Exotics

#15 – Gemologist – This colt has no flaws and is one serious race horse. He has so much of his dad in him and it’s scary. TAP knows he has a great shot a winning his second Ky Derby for the same connections. The post is great and if it’s a of f track they will be smiling even more than they have all week. This colt has galloped over the CH strip awesome and is carrying great flesh and muscle tone. All systems ready to launch today. Serious Win Contender

#16 – El Padrino – Seen this one in person and is a nice looking colt, if it’s sloppy or muddy he is a must use and he freaks in the off going otherwise he hasn’t been the same since winning the Risen Star.

#17 – Done Talking. – Too slow!!! No Shot

#18 – Sabercat – His daddy ran second several years back at huge odds and this one has been pointed to this race. I scored big on him at Delta this year and will have him in my deep exotic wagers as he will get the distance and pick up the pieces down the lane. Exotics

#19 – I’ll Have Another – The post hurts this one in a big way. Has been a gem over the CH surfaces since arriving from the West Coast, Doug is beaming over this colt and has his pilot ready for a big run down the lane. His only race on the off going was his worst!!!!! Pay attention to the track. If sloppy or muddy toss otherwise Exotics.

#20 – Liaison – Bobby B loves this horse and has kept the faith for quit sometime he wants the 10 furlongs and might sneak a piece is the race falls apart otherwise too slow. I’m passing.

    Exacta and Tri Box

    3-4-5-6-11-15

    Win, Place, Show

    Dullahan at 8-1 or more

    Alpha at 10-1 or more

West Coast horse info from our friends at national turf.

    Kentucky Derby Day 5/5

    4th race

    COOK INLET
Really caught the eye on the 4/.25 drill, full of run late. Always had run maybe simply getting better for the O’Neil barn.---Grade: B+

    5th race

    MILE HIGH MAGIC
Stronger and more focused in the April series at HP, huge late rush on 4/2 and 4/22. Should step it up against winners.---Grade: B+

    7th race

    SMILING TIGER
Joel up on the 4/25 spin, seemed fully extended late for Bonde. Would have to give this one an outing off the break. Series has decent drill but has generally been under stiff pressure..---Grade: C+

    AMAZOMBIE
Classy sort breezed really well right back with the 7f drill on 4/28 a total breeze for Spawr. ---Grade: B+
    8th race

    CITY TO CITY
Fluid and strong on the turf course on 4/29 reaching under restraint late. Still in good form.---Grade: B

    9th race

    MILDLY OFFENSIVE
Powerful out of win reaching in an improved fashion late. Seems sharper.---Grade: B+

    SWITCH
Fluid series off the break, easy reach of the HP surface on 4/21 and 4/27. Willing and appears fit--Grade: B

    10th race

    BOXEUR DES RUES
Going strongly out of last finishing strongly in last work, clear from a mate in 59.3, 112.1. Going in good form.---Grade: B

    SLIM SHADEY
Still strong out of SA races, tight hold late in the 4/28 drill. Holds form.---Grade: B

    11th race

    ROUSING SERMON
Turns in the same, grindy one paced type every time. Would have to see much stronger.---Grade: C+

    CREATIVE CAUSE
Great looking roan has held weight and galloped around with abandon since his last race with both HP drill total breezes. Think he will fire his best shot; there is some much talent here..---Grade: A-

    I’LL HAVE ANOTHER
Both HP drill were solid carbon copies of each other working in an easy tempo all the way. Has looked fluid and willing this month. Seems the same right back.---Grade: B

    LIAISON
One paced sort has not really gotten much better since the winter, was clearly second best to barnmate Paynter. On the bright side I think the distance will be no problem.---Grade: C+

My take - Cook Inlet looks live @ a big price. I'll Have Another might not be off as I had heard, but I'm a little iffy regardless. And Mildly Offensive is gonna be wingin' it on the lead. Might be worth a couple with Joel in the irons.

I’LL HAVE ANOTHER – Santa Anita Derby (GI) winner I’ll Have Another put in his usual brisk gallop Monday morning as he moves one step closer to Saturday’s $2-million guaranteed Kentucky Derby (GI).

“He likes the racetrack and is really training well here,” said trainer Doug O’Neill, who is oozing confidence over his Derby prospect. So much so that his brother, Dennis, said, “It scares me a little bit.” But he acknowledged the colt seems to deserve that kind of confidence.
O’Neill sees I’ll Have Another stalking the pace and expects the colt’s natural speed to help him find a good place in the field and stay out of trouble. Of that kind of strategy, O’Neill said, “It’s working for him so far.”

Doug and his brother were beaming over there colt, I didnt' think he could overcome the 19 hole after the draw. Dullahan ran a great race as well. We was about 9 wide on the turn and coming down the lane. I cannot wait to see the trackus on the final running margins.
