Kinda off-topic, but since the thread is labeled "Derby 2009" let's go ahead and issue that ever-important warning:
Today's Indygo Mountain development is exactly the reason why you should never take a short price on Derby futures, particularly this far out. I mean, what is he listed at right now, 25/1?
Don't get me wrong, there's still plenty of time for him to make the Derby, and perhaps it's a very small problem anyway. But you never know with these Derby-trail horses, they drop like flies every year. Always error on the side of caution when it comes to Derby futures...
Last year is what will keep me away from futures on derby.
I had a future on Into Mischief - Hurt
My friend had a future on War Pass - Hurt
After these, we chipped in together for a future on Georgie Boy who was hurt a few weeks later.
Everyone, I warn from experience, don't get crazy on these futures. Sure they're fun to have, but play em with pocket change.
The Yr Barbaro Won I Had A 100 On Him At 20 To 1 In The Second Pool I Think It Might Have Been The First Pool Cant Remember Exactly Which One But He Paid 42.00 Dollars Got Back Over 2100 On The Future Got Back Over 10,000 On The Race Its Self. I Think It Has A Lot To Do With The Trainer And A Lot Of Things. But I Could Have Never Bet War Pass Or Georgie Boy To Win The Derby No Pedigree Appeal To Me Jmo
I bet a couple hundred on Georgie Boy @ 25/1 after his win in the San Felipe. As Flyin Late said, he was injured just a few weeks later.
In addition to injury, many horses simply don't continue on their forward march. I was very high on Yankee Bravo around that same time last year, and after he flattened out in the Santa Anita Derby, he ended up not even making the race. It's just so hard to cash a Derby future. Most years, you can't even pick the winner on raceday, let alone several months out. I'm generally holding very a nice ticket or two on raceday, but overall i'm a loser on Derby futures. I much prefer Breeders Cup futures, but of course they're not nearly as popular. Most casinos don't offer them at all.
Dont Get Me Wrong I Agree Some Years Though There Looks Like The Big Horse Like Fu Peg Pd 6.00 Dont Know What He Pd In The Futures .25 To 1 Way To Short This Far Out.i Do Think This Will Be A Much Better Crop Of 3 Yr Olds This Yr Though .last Yr Was A Bad Crop.
