Like y'all I'm anxiously awaiting post positions and a firm weather report - but those I like are Gun Runner, Brody's Cause, Mohaymen, & Mo Tom . . . we'll see what Wednesday gives us.

And yes, I'm back on Mohaymen if only for the intel above regarding Draynay and Nyquist - sigh.

I like suddenbreakingnews a lot the horse has great late kick he kinda reminds me of Caleb's posse. Should be great value as well maybe 10-12$ ? On a show ticket. Hopefully Donnie von shows up with the white hat on ready to get his picture taken.

I made the mistake a few years back throwing Giacomo out off his last prep and possibly not making the same mistake again will cost me this year but I will have Shagaf and Mohaymen on top of my bigger dollar tickets. I had Shagaf on top of my board ( like I did Giacomo until tossing him after his last prep) until The Wood but am going to throw both their last outs...out... though Mohaymen dos scare me with his lack of reaction to traffic around him which obviously he is going to have in the Derby.

Don't leave out the other Assman runner, Creator!

I like him a little myself. Clearly he's improving, and he's reportedly looked good leading up to the race. Seems like one of the more likely colts to get the distance, too.

Not crazy about deep closers in the Derby though. Too easy to get a nightmare trip. Kind of torn on this one.

Same goes for Mo Tom and Suddenbreakingnews.

I was just informed by a very trustworthy source that it will be either Nyquist or gunrunner in the winners circle come Saturday. This is the kind of source that weighs about 115 lbs and averages 33 mph.

I pretty much hate Gun Runner. If he wins, i'll be very surprised.

Not a bad source based upon description. :)

Nyquist ran (avg) 35.5, Majesto 35.3 as Mohaymen 33.5 during that final 1/4m in Florida . . .

I think Mohaymen just didn't like the wet track in the Florida Derby. I'm wiling to throw it out. Problem is, i thought he was overrated before that. He's definitely a contender, but i don't have him on top or anything.

I hated the Cliff Sise quote about this one.

Q: what did you see in Danzing Candy that made you push on to the Derby?

    A: "owners"

I heard something about that quote a couple of days ago. Didn't see or hear it directly. Certainly not a good sign (and pretty ballsy) if he did in fact say it.

That being said, clearly the horse is talented, and I guess if he gets out there on the lead through moderate splits (possible given the overall lack of speed in the race), then maybe he could hang on. He sure looked good in the San Felipe.

I think it's foolish to bet on anyone wiring the Derby though. It's just too rare an occurrence. Also, that post I made about Mike Smith last night is definitely something to think about.

    What's up guys?
I know it's early but I'd like to put out my choices as of now.

Nyquist, Awesome Banner, Zulu and Brody's Cause.

I'll love to see Awesome Banner on the stretch out. If he can can reserve that energy and speed, there's no catching him. He can definitely Sprint....

Who do you guys like ?

The first horse mentioned in this thread ended up wearing the roses....

    Nice call, cinfront!

    Thanks DC.....
I think we're looking at another Triple Crown. Man, 4yrs in a row the West Coast have been in the hunt.
Starting with I'll Have Another who was my choice to win it. No one was beating that guy. Then California Chrome. Then came American Pharoh, last year, taking it. And now Nyquist....... He's just too fast for this year's group.
We'll see what's up with Stradivari in The Preakness.
I would like a change in the rules for The Triple Crown.
Horses that ran in The Derby must run in all 3 races or forfeit the option of running in The Belmont.
New shooter can come in, at the race they choose, to compete for one of The Crowns.
Fillies aren't able to compete in non of the Triple Crown Races. It's for 3year-old C and G only......
That's my opinion of how The Triple Crown should be. What you guys say?

Bad rule. These races generally lack quality to begin with, without excluding other from entering the race.

Best argument against it are horses like Cupid, who was forced to miss the Derby because of an ill-timed physical issue, but clearly deserves a chance to compete against the best. Pretty much the same deal with Stradivari, who got a late start this year due to a physical issue back in December/January.

DC Cupid and Stradivari didn't run in The Derby, so, they would be able to partake in both or either one of the last two Crowns. What I was saying was exp. If Cupid did run in The Derby he had to run also in The Preakness in order for him to consider running in The Belmont. If they chose not to run in The Preakness after running in The Derby they would forfeit the option of running in The Belmont.
The only horses I would like to exclude are the Fillies from the Triple Crown Races.
They can prove they're better, like Songbird, before or after The Triple Crown.

I think Baffert may have something in the European turf import Moonlight Drive (who is Triple Crown nominated, btw).

I think he'll likely be entered in a Derby prep next month; perhaps even the San Felipe if Mor Spirit pulls out. Maybe even the San Felipe regardless. I was thinking perhaps the Sunland Derby, but the equine herpes thing going on there makes that prety dicey, i think.

The other option would seem to be the Rebel. One of those three races, i would think. We shall see...

Moonlight Drive is entered in the Oceanside Stakes on opening day @ Del Mar

I hope this still happens. Denman's Call down the hill if he's even still alive or in training.

He's actually been in pretty steady training (a couple of missed drills) since at least mid-November. Probably will be entered soon.

Hope he faces a shitty field and is 3-1 or faces a tough field and is 15-1. I'll bet either, don't really want the middle.
